80CrV2

80CrV2 is a low alloy steel which has a better tensile strength and quench properties than non-alloyed carbon steels. It has a relatively high carbon content, and can reach good hardness levels. It is commonly used to make blades subjected to difficult working conditions: hand saws, shears or pruning shears for its resilience and capacity to resist shocks. It is a grade that is suited for making outdoor or utility carbon blades.

The addition of vanadium enhances properties such as vibration resistance, temper resistance, impact resistance and toughness, resulting in improved product quality. The combination of Chrome and Vanadium in the matrix provides for good impact resistance/shoulder strength. 80CrV2 is highly regarded as one of the primary grades for military and hunting knives, bushcraft, and outdoor knives due to its robust nature and excellent edge retention, even under shock loads. It can be used in stock removal applications as well as forging applications for the manufacture of hand knives and cutlery.
